Behind The Scenes
There are a lot of things about the show that you don't see or know about. This hidden behind the scenes look will inform you on how the SURVIVOR crew really works.
- 1. Off-Limits
The contestants are not allowed to go everywhere. There are off-limit areas where the crew sets up camp for filming.Farther away from the contestants camp is the crew's base camp which is completely off limits. - 2. The Challenges
What we don't see on TV is the contestants walking through the challenge before they actually compete in it. They walk through the challenge with John Kirhoffer who makes the challenges. From there, the contestants are allowed to ask any clarifying questions they need about the specific challenge that they are about to compete in. How do they know that these challenges will actually work out you may ask? Well, SURVIVOR has a group of people called the Dream Team. The picture above shows the dream team crew for Survivor Amazon. This team tests out all the challenges before the real survivors do. - 3. Transporting Contestants to Locations
On the show, it may seem that the contestants are walking all by themselves to tribal council and to different challenges, but in reality thats just for the show. The camera doesn't show the part where they transport all the contestants to the specific location. while being transported, the contestants are not allowed to talk because they don't want to miss any important filming for TV. - 4. Medical Treatment
The medic team evaluates the contestants before and after each challenge to make sure everyone is ok. Minor injuries like scrapes and bruises are a natural part of being on the show, but occationlly some more serious issues occur where the medic's have to step in. The medic team, needs to remove people at times because of serious injuries. - 5. Contestants are Never Alone
The contestants don't get to go anywhere without a camera following them(except for the bathroom!).Producers and film crew are constantly taking shifts filming the contestants. They film them through the night as well so that they don't miss any footage. - 6. Survivor Life for Film Crew
The SURVIVOR film crew is usually set up in a nearby camp with nice utilities or in a nearby hotel. Most of the time The crew will use trailers and cargo containers as offices. As for food, they get a nice buffet in a tent, while the contestants are left to find food on their own in the wild! - 7. Personal Hygiene
The contestants are own their own. They can't take showers or brush their teeth! They have to rinse off in the ocean in order to get clean. However, there are a few exceptions. Contestants have access to feminine products, birth control, medications, and contact lens solution. - 8. Wardrobe for the Show
Contestants can bring their own clothes, but the producers have the final say. They want to make sure that what their filming looks good on camera and fits the persons personality. - 9.When Survivors Get Voted Off
Contestants who don't make the Jury get to leave the filming site and go back home. If a contestant is voted out and they make the Jury, then they go to a nearby house called Ponderosa. This is a luxury place where they hang out until the end of the show when they vote for the winner. - 10.Tallying the Votes
Jeff and the producers who have been watching the show arrange the votes in a way that will create the most suspense for the viewers and for the contestants. They arrange to votes so that you have no idea who is going home until the very last vote is read.
